The Best Laid Plans

It has come to my attention that the majority of my peers have made detailed life plans for themselves which they believe will aid them in their desired career path.

Oh.

I have NO CLUE what I want to do when "I grow up". I enjoy entertaining people, making them laugh. I like making stuff up. Other than that...my options are ENDLESS.

And I like it that way. I refuse to worry about my future simply because it is a mystery. I choose to live life as an adventure. I know that if I pursue my passions and continue allowing myself enriching opportunities I will find what I am meant to do.

This does NOT mean that a dream job will land in my lap. I will continue to actively pursue things I believe will better my chances of succeeding in the professional realm of boredom-killing.

Lately I've been remembering professions my child self wanted to pursue. Animator, Architect, Pilot, Spy, Marine Biologist...Guess what? I still want to do those things. Well, maybe not the spy one. Anyways, who's to say that 15 years from now I won't be doing one of those things? Or something completely different? As long as I am happy, healthy and helping others, I think I've succeeded.

Creativity and an 8 to 5 job

This summer I got my first experience working full time for "the man". Well, not quite. I'm not sure corporate America includes small business owners. Anyways, I have to keep a time card. That's pretty "tha man-ish" to me. My thoughts?

While I love making money and the warm feelings that come with producing income, I find that this lifestyle is NOT conducive to a creatively wealthy life. I miss having the time to simply imagine. Once school starts I'll be cutting back to part time, and I for one, can not WAIT.

Luckily, thanks to a lax work environment I have been able to cultivate some AWESOME experiences this summer.

I visited my cousin Becca in Florida for a fun filled sunny weekend eating our way through Walt Disney World. The best way to experience the parks, in my opinion. I loved visiting with her and am so inspired by the journey she has been through this past year. She has a true knack for self-reflection that I lack. Perhaps she could sort through my experiences some time and make sense of it all for me.

I volunteered at Comic-Con in San Diego. It was...interesting. And EXCITING! Once you get over the spandex, comic book geeks are some of the nicest people ever.

And of course every Thursday I'm LIVE on blogtalkradio.com/theeverythingfilmshow. Working with the guys is so fun and stimulating. Every week I think I'm going to plan ahead and make sure that I provide some awesome commentary. Next thing I know, its Wednesday night and I decide to just "wing it". Seems to be the theme of my life recently. I wish I was getting air miles for all these times I "wing it".

Plans for the near future? Hazy at best.

I'd like to get an apartment. I'd like to get involved with campus life. I'd like to flirt more.

I'd like to make sure I enjoy these last few years of juvenile semi-freedom before I'm thrown into the world expected to "do something".

For now?
I'm just making it up as I go.
